Drivers window works fine. All others either don't work or are intermittent. I have already bypassed the child lock out switch. Taken apart the whole left front power lock window switch/assembly and resoldered all the points, also cleaned all of the switches copper connection points. I believe I have found the problem but I don't know where the part is located. On the picture. It is the box above the right front window motor called the right front power lock/window switch/module. Where is that located? Thanks 98 XJ power windows question-image-1919031993.jpg

Wish I could tell you, but please, if you find out and it works, post back the results. This has been driving me goofy with my 98, although I haven't spent much time on it.

It should be just like my 2000. The drivers window/lock switch is the module for the windows, the passenger front window/door lock switch if the module for the power locks.

Check the wiring that runs to the doors from the body. Notorious for cracking and splitting.

No worries. I was a little confused at first too. I ran into issues with my passenger switch and the locks freaking out.

We'll I found my problem. I started shooting wires from the back of the left window switch to the right window switch. No continuity. So I shoot from the first connector at the left kick panel to the right switch. It's perfect. So then I shoot from the left switch to the first connector at the left kick panel (seen below middle connecter) and get nothing

I start shooting different wires that all go thru the same bundle. I find 5 wires with no continuity. I open up the wire bundle under the rubber pass thru tube at the door jam and find the source of my problems. At least 5 broke wires. I guess the couldn't handle 15 years of bending back and forth. This is going to be fun.

My 2000 XJ has the same issue. Everytime a door lock or window actuator stops working I know just where to look. Pretty soo I will have replaced all the wires.

my windows and locks all work from the Drivers side controls. Only the window controls on the separate doors dont work. i.e. I can roll up/down the windows from my seat but my passengers cant. what do you think?

I just learned the other day that the power window module passes through the passenger side switch.

Good to know! My passenger window switches intermittently work, and my power mirrors don't work at all. Will be checking the door jamb!

It's most likely the window lock. They break all the time and the the drivers side window switch assembly has to be replaced to repair it. If you don't care about the window lock feature, there are 2 wires in the drivers door wiring that can be shorted together that will get all the window switches working. Search for "power window lock fix" and you should find which wires.

I picked up some trailer wires for about 5 bucks. I loved that they were already secured together. Snipped off both ends. The biggest pita was getting it thru the rubber grommet attached to body of the jeep. I sliced a new hole because getting it thru the original was near impossible and I didn't have time for that. Yes the wire colors do not match up but remember I used trailer wore. Not the original colors. I basically put in wire inline inserts if that makes any sense. Hopefully this helps someone. It fixed all my problems. If you have any questions let me know

You most likely have broken or cracks solder points inside your left window switch. Before buying a new one for 65-150 bucks. I would pull it apart and resolder all the points.
