a bad NSS will cause all of that. Install a new one or clean the old one

mcguyver_xj Oct 18, 2010 02:08 PM

i got a new one thats a heck of a lot cheaper than going to a parts store $100 plus shipping...let me know its like $250 new

mehoff_400 Oct 18, 2010 02:12 PM

just buy pass the NSS thats what i did on mine

why would you go through the work to bypass the sensor switch and compromise the original design/safety intent when the job to clean it and restore the functionality is much easier? You do realize by doing that permanently you have no reverse lights as well right?

Anyways, BigBrian here is a writeup on how to PROPERLY fix your issue:

i believe you can't bypass the nss on a newer cherokee

you can, but the jeep wont like it much. messes up shift points, sets off a CEL and kills the cruise control. i wouldn't do it unless your stuck out in the middle of nowhere and choices are limited.

i change my nss and my jeep fired rite up,thanks for info

mcssls Oct 22, 2010 07:51 PM

hmm, I seem to have no nss, I can start in gear (manual), my reverse lights work and no CEL I wonder what those monkeys at the university of texas el paso did to it before I bought it. I know they can't bolt in a transmission.
