98 Cherokee transfer case problems
I have a 98 cherokee sport 4.0L. There is a vibration due to the shaft and flange being worn out on the transfer case. The shop is saying I need a new transfer case. I asked if they could just replace the parts because it is going to be $700. They said the labor would be more expensive to tear it down. I don't need 4wd. I just need a vehicle to drive. My question is how hard would this be to change myself. I am somewhat mechanically inclined. Also, how do you tell the difference between types? I also would like to know if the shaft that comes out of the transfer case runs through the transmission too. The shop had metioned there may be a way to bypass the transfer case but then said they didn't find a way to do it. Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks.
