ok so i have a 98 cherokee i bought last year and it has sat for the past 5-6 years but i got it running last year and drove it up and down the road a few times and I notice the fuel gauge started not reading acurate, maybe 2gallons in the tank and it is saying its full. I am just now trying to solve my problem because it has been parked and I am finally getting around to fixing it to sell, My girlfriend is ending up with it.
I have removed the gauge cluster to check for a bad connection but it was fine nothing loose i moved it around a bit while unbolted with the key on, no movement in the gauge. so as right now im stumped.
thanks for any help guys

It's probably the float in your fuel tank. I caused this same problem once after dropping my gas tank. The float got stuck in the full position when I put it back in.

Yep still a likely cause. After sitting that long, you should have dropped the tank, drained gas, and I personally, would have opted to put in a new fuel pump (also a new fuel filter if you have an older year, which you don't). But the fuel level sending unit is part of the fuel pump assembly and it sounds like it has gone bad. May be time for a new fuel pump now.
the fuel pump works just great.
the tank was bone dry before i added any fuel in attempt to get it started.

Try running a can or two of techron in there? Could be the resistance wire has gotten dirty or corroded from sitting. I've had the techron "fix" more than one erratic fuel sender in GM products, might be worth a shot.
