98+4.0l into an 89 2.5 with a 5 speed.. Can it be done?
Im buying a blown 89 2.5 with a 5 speed from a buddy and I was wondering if I could just drop in a 98 4.0 without too much hassle. I tried to search but didn't come up with anything. Thanks!

Engine: 12 hole bosch Injectors
you would need the complete wiring harness and the ecm, all ignition parts and sensors from the other xj, or install a old intake and carb with old non ecm dist . theres probly more after that

I have heard that the rest of the drivetrain will not handle the torque. Trans, TC, diffs, axles too week? I am sure that others can elaborate.

it can be done if you have a parts jeep. The 2.5 trans wont hold up to the 4.0, a 97+ trans wont work with 89t-case and you need the wiring harness from a 4.0.

Man, Id love to have a fuel injected 2.5 in front of a 5 speed! Ive got a 84 with a carburated 2.5 in front of the same 5 speed tranns, and i wish it were injected. Rebuild that 2.5. They are a BOMB proof as the 4.0 liters. They like to be revved more so than the 4.0s.
