97' Cherokee XJ limited, Tape stuck in cassette deck
Hi all,
Keen to read around on here as I'm only a fresh JEEP owner, but I have a question I'd love any opinions or advice on.
The OEM Philips cassette deck in the car plays back excellently, however will not EJECT. No matter how many tricks I try it makes no attempt to initiate any ejection and as the tape is still seated presumably in a sort of playback mode, I cannot pry it out at least without damage risk to the unit.
I've reached out to many local auto electricians and etc and all have quoted me completely ludicrous fees for simply unscrewing the head unit and extracting the tape. So what might I do?
Is it actually a relatively smooth and risk free thing to take the dash or head unit panel on and off? and similarly with the head unit, putting back in place again afterwards?
Really appreciate your thoughts, Thanks in advance.
In my '98, I can have the factory head unit removed in under a minute. Just pop off that big piece that surrounds the radio, climate control, and switches (pull from the bottom first), and then you've got 3-4(?) screws holding the head unit in place plus 2(?) connectors and a ground and antenna connection on the back of the head unit. Piece of cake.
