'96 Driver door makes loud snapping noise (with checkstrap pin in place)
When I got this car, the drivers door came without the door checkstrap retaining pin fitted
When I fitted a temp, it causes a loud snapping/clacking noise when the door is fully opened (and subsequently closed)
I seem to recall this means something evil is broken (from another vehicle)
advice to diagnose/repair, and whether I should disconnect the check strap..and be careful with the door, as the upper hinge on my previous vehicle was needing repair from door stress

My passenger has done that for years. I would get some lubricant and spray the door check liberally with it and also the hinges. Other than that I wouldnt worry about it. You can buy new door checks if it really bothers you. I believe quadratec has them.
