Mine just developed a similar problem. Mine just didn't want to start. Like no spark, no fuel, but I could hear the pump. Did it day before yesterday, then yesterday, self diagnostic code showed fuel pump issue so it got a new pump today. Whether it worked is still pending since it was a sporatic issue. To get your self diagnostic codes do the following, start and get to 2500 rpm, let motor come back to idle, turn ac on, run through settings then off, shift through all gears-stopping to let them engage, then turn engine on, off, on, off, on, after a few seconds you will see the check engine light start flashing codes, each number will be separated by a 2 sec pause, they are all 2 digit codes. If you have a haynes, they are covered in the emissions section I think, but maybe it's fuel, mines in the garage or I would look. If you don't, write them down and get back to me, I will check them with the book for you. I find that this way if good cuz it will tell you if something is malfunctioning even if it does not meet the criteria to turn the check engine light on.

just a guess but have you checked battery terminals & electrical if terminals are loose I don't think truck could run off alternator alone. I had a 64 1/2 mustang w/ straight 6 & it could run for a short period of time on alter. but it has far less elec. systems & no on board computer
hey all thanks for the input. I did get it fixed but not exactly sure what the problem was. I installed a new cap and rotor plugs and wires and coil. that solved the problem. All the parts looked good. I beleive the coil was failing.
