Default 96 Cherokee oem automatic transmission info

Hello,

I have a stock 96 cherokee with 4.0 and auto 4 speed.

the owners manual and shifter indicates that the lowest shifter position will utilize both 1st and 2nd gear.

however when i move the selector into this 1-2 position i cannot get 2nd gear... just seems like a 1st gear lockout only... no shifting to 2, 3 or 4th.

is the owners manual and console shifter bezel labeled wrong or is my trans not working correct for this setting?

thanks,

Greg

It'll shift in to 2nd (2nd only) at around 4K rpms.

Thanks, good to know. I will try running it out over 4k rpm.

so if i was decending a hill in 3 and shifted to 1-2, the trans seems to just jump to 1 because its not over 4k?

Thanks!
