95 XJ - Replaced Leafs, Shocks, Shackles...still some squeaking
Replaced the following items on the XJ recently:
- New Rear Leafs (Heavy Duty)
- New Rear Shackles
- New Monroe Shocks
Still hearing some squeaking from the rear area near bumper. We greased up the bushings on the leafs and shackles. Does it need to just "wear in"? I guess I could just go around and spray some with lithium grease on all the bushings in the rear including the control arms...
Any other thoughts???
In case you are curious I did also replace some front suspension components (new Heavy Duty Springs, New Monroe shocks, new drag bar, new steering dampener, new sway bar end links).

Same thing on mine. Replaced them in Sept. and the shackles squeak where they connect to the leaf spring bushing by the bumper. If I push down on the bumper, I can hear them sing. I have been spraying them every 3 weeks with lube but it only lasts 3 weeks and the squeak comes back. I was hoping it would wear/break in by now (6000 miles) but no. I'll give it another few thousand miles before I try something mechanical. I used Dorman HD springs, the monroe HD shocks with the spring assist and the crown auto shackles. Something is not playing well with the others.
Btw, the shocks did quiet down - the spring assist was making noise when rubbing the shocks sleeve.
If you figure something out let me know, please.

My polys are quiet, period.
In either case.....petroleum grease/oils destroys rubber and poly.
Did you tighten your bolts...>ALL your bolts....with the Jeep on all fours in the static position or while still on the jack stands?

I used pretty much the same parts. The bushings are whatever came in already pressed. I assume it's "stock like" material and not poly.
We tightened down all the bolts while on stands, but we raised the rear end up alot to simulate weight.
Should I use silicone grease on them?
