Just one thing I'm not sure what year they changed but if the 96 has the temp sensor on the thermostat housing then most likley the threads for the Temp sensor for earlyer head on the back of the head won't exist. I shot myself in the foot one time with that problem. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong please.

Just put a 92 head on my 96 zj. The sending unit plugged in to the t-stat housing on it. The unit on the back is there on the older one. Worked fine. Solved my issues.

That probably didn't make a whole lot of sense. The older head I stuck on had the temp sensor on the back but I(we) don't need it on the 96. The t-stat housing on the one I got from the wrecking yard, had the unit to plug into on it. Other than that, I think they were the same. Either way, It is running again. Idles rough(like it just wants to go)with the brake on but it goes good again.
