94 xj can bad transmission mount cause transfer case shifting issues ?
hey,
i havent checked this myself yet but before i try to adjust my transfer case linkage i wondered this:
my transmisison mount was pretty bad and is replaced so the transmission and transfer case were hanging lower as it should for quite a while but with the new transmission mount its pushed up idk how much maybe half an inch or more. my question is while this mount wears down does this pull on the linkage for the transfer case and make the linkage go off with just a bit and needs to be readjusted?
im asking this cause the 4 wheel drive works but clunks or pops out im not sure what exactly is happening but before i might look deeper into this does a worn transmission mount effect transfer case linkage ?
i cant confirm if the 4 wheel drive ever worked right it was never tested before any of this.
thank you, Marc

I think the additional vibration is as bad or worse for the linkage than the height.
The linkage is a lot more fragile than would seem appropriate. It could have come off the pivot.
You won't really know until you get a good look at it - IMO.

thank you for your reply PatHenry,
i will see what i can find then before taking things apart, would be nice to have a simple solution for once for a fix

If your linkage is bound up it could cause problems if the transfer case is not fully engaging There is a rod that goes from the side of the transfercase to a bracket on the side of the transmission tunnel. If you replaced the trans mount without taking that rod off, something could have bent. Its pretty simple to see what should happen when you get under there. On a side note, if that is the 242 transfer case, they have known issues with popping out of 4x4. if your linkage seems o.k., do a search on that.
