Default 94 xj 4.0 air vents routing and defrost not working

hello,

ok here is the problem, the blowing motor works but only on the highest speed, the slider to route the vents from face to feet position doesnt do anything (the air seems to come out the top by the window and a soft breeze by the feet position and when sliding vent shifter it all stays the same nothing chages) and when put on the far right on defrost the blower motor stops.

ive read a few treads and i checked a few things like,
i followed all 4 vacuum lines by reaching under neath the dash near the 4x4 shifter and all 4 lines are connected firmly.
next i check the 'T' near the heater hoses in the engine bay and those are all connected as well.
next the vacuum canister behind the the right side front bumper i can feel 1 vacuum line connected (im not sure if there is more than 1 suppose to go to this canister) i have to take the bumper cover off to have a closer look (will do this tonight)
also i have checked the blower motor resistor and is not burnt out all connections, plug and resistor look all nice and shiny.

am i missing a spot to check for vacuum leaks ?

thank you, marc

[edit] i correct the vent routing does work but only when the engine is running

The check valve by the manifold or where it goes into the firewall sometime block up with gunk....Does your cruise control work....the blower resistor is bad you need to check it with a meter not visually

you were right bluejeep2001, it was silly of me not to use a multimeter to test the blower motor resistor it was indeed broke and now replaced it with a new one so now all speeds work except for Defrost, when i put it on defrost the blower motor stops.
when i was putting in the resistor i noticed another vacuum line right next to the resistor which also is connected.
i'll have a look at the canister behind the bumper soon.

thanks, marc
