94 fuel pump is it located in the tank or outside

94 fuel pump is it located in the tank or outside
I just picked up a 94 xj and its leaking fuel. Its leaking from a bolted on can looking thing under the truck near the rear shock on the drivers side. Is this the fuel pump. I have a 97 and it doesnt have this part. Just unsure what part it is cause i thought fuel pump was in the tank.
