94 cherokee engine shut off
 

I have a 94 Cherokee SE with 271,000 miles, today i was driving it home and when i went to pull in the parking spot at my house, the engine just shut off out of nowhere, and the oil light came on. The radio and lights all stayed on also but the engine just shut off. I was able to start it again and finish parking, but i have no idea as to why it would just shut off like that. The Jeep was given to me about a week ago so im pretty new to this. Also i did add a quart of oil after noticing it was a little low. Any ideas on what could have caused the engine to shut off so suddenly?

It could be the IAC motor (idle air control).

Do you think it would shut off if it overheated as well?

It could. How long was it before you restarted the engine?

About 10-15 seconds. Maybe less.

If it shut down because it was overheating it wouldn't restart that fast after stalling.
