Default 94 ac bypass?? Solved!

Hey guys! I really need to bypass my AC pulley on my 94 xj. Having a hard time finding a bypass pulley for this year model. Has anyone actually done it to their 94? Don't need to know about other year models, just the 94. 4.0 motor if you were wondering. Thanks in advance!

Understood! Actually though, they didn't give me my over time pay this week, so I'll just dump you some 87-90 Renix Jeep crap here.

AC Bypass/Idler pully. (unconfermed) > Get an AC bracket from a 92, go to NAPA to pick up a Dorman AC bypass pulley for a 92 and newer. NAPA # p/n 660-1819. The belt size remains the same. You need to use the pulley spacer that comes with in the hardware bag, it moves the pulley out about an 1/8" so that it lines up perfectly with the rest of the stock pulleys.

You might look at part numbers. May well be the same bracket in 92 and 94.

Should be one of these two.
1991-1993 CHEROKEE Dorman Air Conditioner Bypass Brackets 34171
1996-2001 JEEP CHEROKEE Dorman Air Conditioner Bypass Brackets 34237

Seems to have been a transition between 1993 and 1996. Had the same issue finding one for my '95. I ended up having to compare the compressor assembly between my 95 to that of a year listed above (in this case, 1999). Since they were the same, I went with the newer style.

So the newer style bypass pulley worked just fine on your 95? Maybe it will work on my 94 too...

The newer style worked in my '95. I would try to compare the setup you have to one of the known years listed above. I've never looked at the older style so I don't know how different they are, other than the older style bracket appears to only use 3 bolts instead of 4.

Awesome. Thanks for the great info. I went ahead and ordered one from napa. If it fits I'll use it, if not I'll modify or return it. Thanks everyone!

So I bought the newer style AC bypass pulley, dorman part # 34237. This pulley is listed as only fitting the 96-01 year models but you can make it work on a 94 or 95! All you have to do to make the bypass pulley work is put a spacer (something like a washer) between the pulley and the bracket. My washer was a little thicker than a 1/16" but thinner than an 1/8". The reason you need this spacer is to make the pulley line up with the other pulleys.

After you do all that it will work like a charm!

See, it does fit a 94. Just add that washer behind the pulley to line up everything.

Glad to see it fit! I didn't have to add a washer to mine.

I still want to see what the 91-93 setup looks like.
