Default 91 xj tuneup problem

hey guys my 91 4.0 xj is having some issues. it had a miss so i decided to tune it up new plugs wires dist cap rotor button. i have done this a thousand times if ive done it once. anyway after changing everything i tried to crank it. well it turned over fast then slow fast then slow and would not start. my first thought ive got a wire on wrong well i retraced all my wires three times and i swear they are right but if u unhook the coil wire it turns over like it should. So that tells me ive got a plug wire wrong but i swear i cant find it help

do you even have spark? Have a buddy turn it over while you hold one of the plug wires close to a ground, it should visibly ark...

I don't recommend holding the plug wire.. ZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAPPPP!!!. Ouch. Just rest it near a ground, then have a buddy turn it over for you.

lol, as long as your holding it up on the insulation (at least a few inches up) and your not touching anything on the vehicle, you'll be OK. Heck, I've done it a million times.

Or if you're a wimp and you don't understand how electricity works, you could rest it within an inch of a ground (pretty much the entire motor), and have a buddy crank it, lol.

I should say, (as CYA), that it's safe and reccomended not to do either...

I have a similar problem. I have no spark and checking the CPS was recommended. Forum member "Abovetimberline" recommended checking resistance between terminals B and C on the connector. Resistance should be close to zero. It's a three pin connector, on the driver's side, near the throttle body. http://media.photobucket.com/image/j...or_diagram.jpg Here's a picture. Hopefully this will help you out, then maybe I can solve my own problem. Good luck!

Did you turn the rotor when removing or replaceing it? If so then you might have knocked it out of time.
