Default 91 xj runs very cold!! Help

Hey guys i just bought a 91 xj and it runs great. 1 problem though I runs real cold! like 120* all the time. I have heat but its not crazy hot. I started it up cold today with the rad cap off let it run like that for 1 hr, the coolant never went down. It has plenty of power. I ran codes and it says runs to cool, a vss code. I even put cardboard in front of the rad and no change. The top hose is warm, not hot i can hold my hand on it. What do you guys think the problem is? No stat? Backwards stat? Help!

No stat or broken open all the time. Put a Mopar (Best for the jeep) 195 in there and it should work great...Tj

ya its no stat i use to run my jeep with out one when my radiator was like50% clogged, it would run at 130- 140 on the hottest days but my MPG was horrible, computer puts more gas down the engine to warm it up to operating temp . the out side of my tail pipe was black and almost driping gass lol bought new radiator and a 195 stat now runs 210-220 most the time

I am gonna stop by napa and get a new stat. I did notice the radiator had some corrosion on it. I have a 93 parts xj with a good rad, i may switch them. I just bought it friday, i have not changed any fluids yet or done any other maintence.
