So I Just bought this 1991 XJ 2 door and I go under to look at the front axle and it doesnt look like the ends of the axle that are on my 1991 XJ 4 door. Plus, some dork painted it green . They look like CV joints. My 4 door I can clearly see u-bolts where the inner and outer shafts meet. And on this 2 door I just bought, it looks like torn beat up CV boots???
Are these CVs on my HP D30?

Yes those are CV Joints and the boots are pretty torn up. I know you can get them as a replacement part on the Grand Cherokees I didn't even know it was an option for a Cherokee.

Edit: Just looked up 91 Cherokee and they do make them.

yes, cv's did come stock in D30's. I couldnt tell you what yrs though. Best thing to do is hit up a local junk yard and pick up some shaft with ujoints in them. If you find a dana 30 with ABS they should have the larger 297/760 joints.

only came in 84 to 86 sure its a 91?

they can be swapped from a ZJ into the XJ. i dont know why you would ever do that, but its a simple swap.

My brother has the CV's in his Grand Cherokee. He had the U-joints replaced so many times he just gave up on them and went to CV's. He has had them for 3 years and no problems yet.

not if you buy good ujoints. they are stronger than CVs.

Yeah its def. a 91 and its its def. an HO motor. It has it on the title and vin as being a 1991. It was in an accident I know this. The front passenger fender and door are from other cherokees.
Im just gonna get the shafts and u-joints out of a 95 and later XJ and replace the CVs with those.
