91 XJ Crank No Start/Intermittent Dying
My XJ has died on me several times. First time it happened to the wife as she was pulling in the driveway. By the time I got home it started and couldn't find anything wrong after a test drive.
Two weeks later it died on me after an 8 mile drive to work. It would crank and not start. So I came to the forum to see that the Crank Position Sensor is a common culprit. By the time I had rounded up a multimeter to check the sensor it would start and run fine. Sensor tests infinite resistance. Did not show any trouble codes.
Yesterday I took it out to play in some mud. It died as I was pulling into a driveway to pick someone up, but immediately restarted. I had my multimeter with me but again showed infinite resistance. Put about 100 miles on it and on two separate occasions felt a slight miss for a split second but it kept running. When I got home I checked for trouble codes and 11 came up.
How do I know whether to replace the crank sensor or the cam sensor? Every time I go to check the crank sensor it shows fine and I'm not sure if I know how to check the cam sensor.
