Hey Guys,
Finally got my 91 XJ and fixed allot of things, but I am still having a few issues.
I checked all the fluids and they seemed fine. But I have the engine tick that might be my lifter, very annoying, I also might have an exhaust leak.
What I need help with is when the jeep is cold it fits really funny and wone go into the next gear so well.
Like I stopped at the four way made my turn and drove it, it started revving high so I let off and it finally changed gears. What could it be, Please tell me my trans is not going out?

Sorry to jump in late but if you are still having that problem you may need a new throttle position sensor or just need make sure the its plugged up tight and the connections are good and waterproof. I don't think the TPS is as sensitive in the 91's as it was in previous years but in my experience when it seems like the car has no idea when it is supposed to shift it is often the TPS.

So anyone that hasn't checked/adjusted the cable or anyone that is having weird tranny problems Adjust that cable first.
How to from Alldata:
1. Shift transmission into Park, shut engine off and raise hood.

2. Press cable release button.

3.Push cable conduit back into cable sheath as far as possible.
4.Rotate lever on throttle body to wide open throttle position. Cable will ratchet to correct adjustment point as lever is rotated.
Super easy and worth checking. Sorry if this is in the wrong area.
Just a thought? I had some hard shift problems with my AW-4 and this worked like a dream.
