Default 90 Wagoneer with Bendix 9

Hi all

Newbie from England, I have posted an introduction with some info on the introduction page.

I have done a search and I believe I know the answer, but I just want to be sure. I have bought a 1990 XJ Wagoneer as a project here in England, the car came in via Italy and is LHD.
I have read up on the troublesome Bendix system and want to convert to traditional vacuum booster. Though the XJ were available in England they are RHD and I can't see the units being interchangeable, nor can I find any part number confirmations to say so either.

As I will have to ship the bits from the USA, I need to be 100% sure I locate the right bits.
As far as I can tell the 95-96 XJ cylinder and booster can be used if I also use the pressure valve and possibly a mod to the brake pedal. what about later ones?, there is a 97-01 XJ booster on eBay at the moment, could this also be used ?

Any pointers greatly appreciated.
regards
Gareth

From what I can tell, the export RHD and US/Canada LHD use the same part number:

Looking at the RHD picture here, the brake lines and booster vacuum connectors are in the same location they'd be in a LHD.

IIRC 95/96 drop in, 97+ you have to fool with the pushrod length, but can be done.

Don't forget to pump the brake pedal on that bendix 9 system (engine off) about 50 times to bleed the pressure out of the accumulators. They can kill you if you open them pressurized.

Next is a two part article By: Michael J. Rollins regarding:
88XJ Cherokee Conversion to 2000WJ Booster and Master Cylinder
Part 1 - Booster/Master Cylinder
This article is the first in a series documenting how I converted my 1988 XJ Cherokee to use newer WJ Grand Cherokee steering and brake components. In this part, I replaced the old booster and master cylinder with those from a WJ Grand Cherokee.

Part 2 - Proportioning Valve
This is the second article in a series describing the addition of year 2000 WJ Grand Cherokee steering and brake components to my 1988 XJ Cherokee. In this part, I describe the brake proportioning valve, its function, and modification to adjust for my upgraded brake system.

Another question, do I have to find a non ABS master cylinder or will the ABS master cylinder fit ?
There is a guy in the UK parting out a 95 but it has ABS.

edited to add, just read a write up on the WJ booster and cylinder set up, these are more plentiful here, but all our WJ's came with ABS.

Criuser54's site is very good, I now have a fix for my vagrant MAP sensor pipe

Thanks
Gareth

Just a quick follow up on this.
I converted using a Booster and M/Cylinder from a RHD 1995 XJ, no problems and all working well.
Last week it went for its road worthiness test (MOT in UK) and passed, applied for registration and just waiting for my plates.

Thanks again for your help
