The 89 XJ that I bought over the weekend will only run for about 5-10 seconds when the vaccuum line to the MAP sensor Is plugged in. When disconnected it will start very hard with alot of cranking but then goes to a semi-smooth Idle. I replaced the MAP sensor, plugs, some vaccuum lines, and the distributor and rotor. The plugs look like it was running rich. Want to go wheelin so please somebody help.

Try disconnecting the bettery for a count of 10 and see if it will start and run right. What this does is flash or "reboot" the ECU. You should do this whenever a sensor is changed because the ECU stores old information given from the old bad sensor.

As 76 says the O2 sensor (you only have 1) is the next thing to change. There is a write up with all the specs in the tech section. If you have trouble finding it then post up again. But that is what I would change next along with new Champion plugs.
