89 XJ, no fire
ok, i think it's the ICM, but i'm not sure, please help before i spend even more money i don't have to spend fixing this thing.
this started with an intermittent sputter that seemed like it was running out of gas, but it wasn't. it got worse and worse and now just flatout will not start. i figured it was the CPS sensor, so i put one on it but it didn't help. i have injector pulse, so the CPS is doing it's job. at least i have a new one on it and a spare, just in case...
i checked power to the ICM, i have power and ground to it and it's getting some sort of signal from the distributor (i don't have an analog voltmeter to test it with, but with my digital one the numbers were jumping all over the place) but there is nothing going out to the coil. i'm assuming that means the ICM is bad.

ok so i guess i was wrong, borrowed an ICM from a buddy and it fired with it... so i stuck the old one back on and it too is fireing....so i guess that rules out the ICM and coil...
the jeep still will not start, even with starting fluid, so i dont think it's fuel related, though i guess it could be... it KINDA tries to start if i hold the gas pedal to the floor while spinning it over, but nothing happens...sputters a wee bit and thats it
i'm wondering if maybe the knocking was the timing chain and it's stretched to far to let it start or it got so loose it jumped time...

i'm going to get a compression tester and a fuel pressure tester wednesday when i get my check cashed.
is there a way to check the cam timing without pulling the timing cover off?

ok, it's got 110 lbs of compression on 2, 3, 5, 6 and 45 lbs on 1 and 4....
it's got injector pulse to all 6 injectors, verified with a test light.
it's firing good.
everything is hooked up and all sensors test out good.
even spraying starting fluid in it will not make it hit though, so i really don't think it's fuel related. i don't have the money to rent a fuel pressure tester, autozone wants $150 deposit on one and i dont have that right now.
this thing is pissing me off!
