Angry 89 front axle issues

ok so I just got this 1989 XJ larado stock, 4.0, auto, I know Im having problems with the vacuum disconnect on the front axle. I have found a number of solutions but I have a budget of about $20 and I live in Durango, CO and we just got more snow so I need my 4X4. Please help I tryed to trace out the vacuum lines but with all the oil built up I have no idea whats going where or not right. The front axle sometimes locks in but pops out when the wheels spin, also no indicator light on dash. Please help I need some detailed diagrams or better pics of one of these fixes. Thanks

Also new to jeeps not 4X4's but jeeps. always had big old rusty trucks.

I used to find the vaccume line that goes from the engine down to the transfercase. then just hop it back and fourth between the metal lines on the firewall manuely to get the front end to engage and disengage. that would get you by. I then upgraded to a pto cable from napa and a small spring and made it manuel from inside. There are some writeups on this setup. search posi lock on fourms and you should be able to find it.

ok so ive seen how people just drill the fork and put a bolt through it to keep it engaged. will that work for a daily driver/ weekend offroad? I mean in the future I wanna upgrade to custom built axles but thats down the line? again thank you for any help or thoughts.

pop the vacuum motor off, remove the e-clips, push the fork down to the engaged position, replace the e-clips with the fork now in the engaged position, make sure to move the collar into the engaged position before reinstalling the vacuum actuator

this will keep your front axle engaged at all times and you dont have to drill anything
