Default 89 Cherokee Questions (lots of pics)

So, today I was looking over this again, Because its my new baby:

Ive had it for about two weeks.. Im sure this is a dana 35, but Im kinda wondering because of the square plug, instead of the round rubber "plug":

While looking at the Rear Diff I found these:

Is it gonna be a Problem? I heard not to run blocks on Cherokees..

Front Diff, Dana 30.

Shocks, part of the front ~4" lift, Some people dont like Rough country, what is your opinion?

Also, is it ok to run it like this:

Untill I get some flex pipe for my side pipe? Im not driving it, just letting it idle for 5-10 mins a day to keep everything lubed up and in working order...

thanks for looking,
Dylan

if you XJ is a 89, then you have a non C-clip dana 35,, i've never seen anyone put blocks on a xj,

As for rough country I havent heard greatest remarks from them and I know a few buddys who ride rough country and there always talking about getting something better

The blocks are fine in the rear, although you'll wear your leaf springs out faster than normal because of the extra leverage the axle has on the springs. It's a nice cheap and easy way to get more lift, but you'll lose some or all of the lift you got when your leaf springs sag from the extra stress. Running blocks in the front, most people say is a bad idea because of the force exerted on the tires/axle when braking. This is a non-issue however because the Cherokee, unless modified, has coil springs in front. Coil spacers are fine to use and wont affect anything. To sum it up, coil spacers are fine, rear leaf blocks are fine but wear your springs out faster, and front blocks are a no go. As for the exhaust pipe, it should be fine. In fact i've been driving mine around like that for a while, although I keep all my windows open, if i dont it gets sorta smelly.

I think you have a 3in Rough Country first edition lift, with the add a leaf and block in the rear. The block should have also a little angle (like the shims) that helps with the DS angles.
Should have full length coils in the front.
Overall a good lift kit.

The pre '91 D35s have a metal plug and as stated, they are non c-clip.
The best dana35.

For the exhaust no problem, you'll only smell the gases a little more...

Thanks. I know the D35 isnt very strong, but will it handle 31" Widetrack Mud Terrains ok? I know theyre cheap tires, what are your opinions on them? Dad had them laying around off his old truck, so we are gonna put them on the jeep; hey, at least its free.. I dont plan on really wheeling it or anything, maybe some dirt roads and a few gravel "burnouts". I might go to the "Easter bogs" next year.. Am I gonna have problems with the 31s rubbing with my amount of lift?

Sorry for all the questions, im sure I will have more later.. I just figured since I have a thread open I might as well ask some of the questions I have..

Thanks for your time and Comments..

You will be fine with a 3 inch lift and 31s. There should be no issues with rubbing.

I run 33's on my 35 and its fine, people under estimate what an axle can do in my opinion.

Yeah 33 will work fine on a 35 without a locker running 35's or running 33 with a locker is when it gets iffy.
