Default 88 laredo cutting out/not starting after being warmed up

Hey guys,

My 88 XJ is starting to cutout when im stopped, and wont start, after it is warmed up, until it starts to cool back down. It doesnt run hot and all the fluids are good, I just dont have a clue to what it could be. I've read somethings about the CPS, but I am not sure if that is the cause (I'm having difficulty finding the plug to pull).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Start by clicking on the link in my signature and doing posts 1 through 5. Takes about an hour.

Test your CPS? See post 7.

To replace, yes. To test , no.

That C101 connector could be the whole issue...........

Don't take doing posts 1 through 5 lightly.

Agree with cruiser. Had That problem with my 88 Laredo. Cps was the cause.
I would go ahead and do all his tips and trick one weekend. It will save you a headache

On an 87 or 88 with the C101 connector, your CPS can test fine at it's pigtail connector, but all bets are off when that signal gets into the C101.

Oh I have but I have to learn to solder first, I have plumbed a house with copper pipe but I don't think it will be exactly the same. I spent a ton of time cleaning the C101 but I will eventually eliminate it this year.

Oh and by the way I wish you would have been a Chevy Tech also, my old Sonoma is giving me fits and there isn't a site near this informative for it.

This looks like they splice the cps, the previous owner not me. Could it be a timing issue? I mean it starts up when it's cold, runs fine in freeway speeds. But when I come to a stop the idle gets low and cuts out unless I give it some gas, but if it cuts out brie I can save it, it takes around 20 mins each time to start back up
