Default Tranny cooler

Hey everyone,

I have to replace my rad today. I all ready have a tranny cooler hooked up. The new rad comes with one and the old one is fine. So my question is can I use the new tranny cooler to cool something else?. Like the power steering or the oil?.

I've read that you can't use tranny coolers as an oil cooler cause oil runs at too high of a pressure. I'd read into that to find out more. Also the tranny cooler that's built into the rad helps bring the tranny to temp in cold weather so I hear it's not wise to bypass it.

Totally false, but there is no need to run an oil cooler on a gasoline engine, nor would you want to (oil needs to be hot to function properly).

OP as far as using it for something else, absolutely! (be sure to clean it out well).

I used a tranny cooler as a power steering cooler when I did my steering box swap. Works great!

3/8" transmission line from the steering box outlet -> cooler -> power steering low pressure port.

Attached to rad support panel (behind openings) with self tapping sheet metal screws and zip ties

Years ago Ford had a PS cooler that bolted to spare holes and draped over the top of their AC compressors. It was a tiny little thing but was worth 10 degrees easy. On one Opal (yes OPAL) street rod with a 267 Small Block Chevy, we ended up using 4 of the things in 4 different places because we could not mount a "typical" trans cooler in the tiny space in the front end of the car.

Just to let you guys and gals know.....Chrysler put a P/S cooler in thier minivans. Its located unerneath, attached to the cradle. just behind and below the rack and pinion. Its about 2 inches wide, and 7 inches long. EVERY one of their mini vans had it. SOOOO...next time your at your local junkyard...grab one. They fit anywhere.......and what can they cost at a junkyard? Three bucks? Five bucks?

yeah...but any tranny cooler will do the same thing, and they're more common/easier to get to...
