I have a 1986 cherokee with the 2.8 v6. I'm having some starting issues. It cranks over really hard almost like the battery is about dead. I put a new battery in with more cca than the one that was in it and it does the same thing so I've ruled out a bad battery. When it's cold it will turn over really slow but fire up and run fine but after its warmed up and I shut it off it will hardly turn over at all. After I let it sit for a while though it will turn over slow again and then start. Thinking it's a problem with my starter and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Would greatly appreciate any advice anyone has. Thanks.

 

Chances are high you have a bad starter, but check you battery ground at the block first.

Thanks for the replies. Gonna check cables and ground after work. I was also wondering if it might have something to do with the timing.
