85 2.5L Dies when put in reverse
Juts recently picked up a 1985 Jeep XJ 2.5L Carb. We've rebuilt the carb on it, cleaned jets, changed fuel pump, done all the other tune up things, and fixed a few vacuum lines. For some reason it runs great when cold, but crappy when warm, and dies when put in reverse. I know tons about my 92 mustang, but jeeps are pretty new, and this motor has no internet help with it. There are plenty of vac lines that probably need to be fixed, and lots of emissions to delete (working on that) but I'd like to get it running as it will be my daily. I do know about the weber carb swap and how bad the stocks are. Might do that in the future, but I want it running first. Thanks!

I dont know the 2.5 well enough, be it gas or diesel, but engine load changes when put into gear, so it 'could' be a bad vacuum line or fitting. That can affect idle and driveablity in general so they should be checked anyway. One less thing to worry about later. Aside from that, i am of little help with a 2.5. Like you, i know more about Mustangs. Mine is a 93.

Intake and exhaust manifolds tended to come loose causing vacuum leaks.
Also, the hoses in the pic below cracked and split. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...9494e5303b.jpg |
