84 shutting off

84 shutting off
So after searching here, I thought that I had figured out that my 84 with the 6cyl had a bad Cps. Started searching for the actual part and discovered that the 84 doesnt have one. Back to square one. What would cause it to just die out. Most of the time if it sits for 20-30 mins it will start back up. The last time it happened, I ran the battery dead trying to get it started.

Hi, Welcome to CF. Now for some simple questions and we can help answer yours. 1st, Is your 84 the Full size Cherokee or the Compact models like we all know and love? If the fullsize , like a Grand Wagoneer, then you have an FSJ. If compact, you have an XJ.
2nd, what engine do you have? V6 or Inline 6?
