Default 8.8 rear end from a mustang

Is there any reason an 8.8 rear end with disc brakes from a mustang would not work? I assume they are the same as the ones from the explorer but i am not sure. I have access to one from a mustang that is free. any help is much appreciated.

The only thing i would check is the width... Other than that i would think it should be fine! The price is right!

I dont know, but the difference between an exlpoder and a ranger 8.8 is the spline count. Not sure about a mustang 8.8.

id assume the spline count would be the same or higher on a mustang than an explorer or ranger though but again width is your issue

28 spline not the 31 like the 96 exploder
gearing is not a match to any jeep
axle has a different offset
axle tubes are not as thick
and the bolt circle is not the same 4 lug

I can find the sight any more but thats what I remember

the explorer was the best fit but if the thing is free get it and see

The non GT Mustang axles are 7.5" - as previously said though the gear ratios would be way out for use on a jeep. THe year of the Mustang will determine if it's a 4 or 5 lug bolt pattern.
