79 Cherokee chief
What do you guys think about the 79 Cherokee chief? I have a chance to get one. One of the bonuses (curses?) Of working at a car lot...
What I know so far is its a 360v8 auto, has a lift, big mudders on it. Body didn't look rust, but I haven't had a chance to really look at it yet.
May pick this up to do trails and mudding so I don't mess up my 5.9 limited.

I had a 76 and really miss it now.
These vehicles are as hard core as a stock unit gets.
No mods really needed to get you anywhere you wanna go, 'cept maybe for rock crawlin'.
Check rear lower quarter panels for rust.
Check inside glove box for quadratrac on off valve/switch. (I believe its for air lockers on rear) Sure feels like it.
Be prepared for expensive trans & tcase fluids, there may be other's available now however.
MPG is 10 no matter what, get used to it.
Really miss the tail gate. Rear hatch just not as cool.
I did get it stuck in mud once, and it rocked itself out eventually.
Tore off the muffler and tail pipe doing it though.
Nearby farm equiptment shop welded it back on and wouldn't let me pay.
