Alot has to do with where and how you wheel? 6000 is a bit on the small size, but if you use a snatch block you'd be ok..

That said there is alot to look at when you choose the weight pull of your winch..

id sell it for $ towards an 8k

yup once u get your jeep in the mud, the mud acts like a suction which adds alot of weight to your vechile and most likly put you over the 6000lbs limit

yeah, it's a little on the small size. but not totally impractical.

just know this. if you do fit it to the front of your jeep, the mounting plate won't be the same as an 8000lb plate.

also, when in use, just be sure you use a minimum of 2 snatch blocks.

for a simple self extraction, use at least one snatch block for a dual line pull.
that means, winch to a tree using a tree strap and snatch block, then back to your jeep and hook it up to your front bumper to a tug point. this will increase your 6000lb winch to a 12000lb capability.

if you are in deep, use at least 2 snatch blocks as described above and back to another tree with a tree strap, or jeep, etc. for a 3 line pull.

but only use as a self extraction. try not to use on others jeeps to pull them out.

really, you should sell it to help finance an 8000lb.
warn is a really good name, and the 6000lb may be as strong as a china branded 8000lb cheapie if used correctly. this one would work ok on a trailer tho.

but for free, it's better than nothing. just don't use it freely.

if you're ever deep in the mud, a strap should always be used.

while the XJ and MJ came with a 6000 pound winch as an option, it isnt enough. Go with a name brand 8000 or more pound.

Does seem a little light duty for a loaded XJ.

I say run it. ITS FREE. Who knows, it may hold up just fine. It is a warn ya know

Run it if it's free. It'll help some.

I've seen a WAL-MART 1500lb hitch mount winch pull an '01 Sahara TJ out of mucky mud onto hard ground.
