5 Speed I.D
 

I did some searching and can't seem to find what I am looking for. In my 87 XJ 4.0 5 speed I am trying to I.D my tranny. How do I go about this? Just wondering if it has the AX5 or the borg warner T-5. Also how do I I.D my differentials and gearing. I am reasonably sure I have the Dana 30 front end but what is in the rear I don't have a clue. I know these are newbie questions so I appreciate the help.

Hi, take your vin# to a dealership, they should be able to run it and give you a list of equipment. I'm not 100% sure but I thought in 87 with a 4.0 you should have a puegout and 3.07 gears....

If you have the 87 with a 5 speed 4.0 I6 it should be a AX15. Check out this xj specs page, it seems to be right on the money...
