Default 4X4 Trouble

I'm having a small problem with my 97 Cherokee Sport. Not sure if I'm doing something or if something is wrong with the it. When I drop it into 4-Hi I usually have it in parking, press the brake and drop the gear to 4-Hi. When I put it into drive and pull away it feels fine, up until I try to make a tight turn like pulling into or out of a parking spot. If I'm pulling the steering wheel all the way to the right it tends to try and pull itself left, also it feels like something just isn't turning smoothly. Any Ideas what could be happening?

4X4 isnt ment to turn to lock in 4Wd, what you are doing is over angling the universel joints near the hub on the front axel. the u-joint can only work at such an angle, if you are past that angle, itsa going to pull the steering system to atcheve that angle. it usually trys to rip the wheel out of your hands, or chirps the tires. either way your going too far with the wheel. im sure someone else will chime in soon.

2xs on that. Also dont use 4 hi or low on dry pavement. Youll break it.

X2 on all the above. Your Jeeps four wheel drive is engineered to assist when traction becomes wet, slippery, loose etc. I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like your Cherokees acting like a Cherokee.

same here on that. I only checked mine on gravel dirt before I got it, and I drove it around the block during a bad rain storm last week to check the 4 wheel drive. I dont use mine on dry pavement either. Good point.
