Default 4x4 problem

Okay my '88' xj started having this happen. When I put it in 4x4 high or low and give it the gas hard the front wheels don't grab anymore and I hear this awful sound like a chain skipping on a sprocket. I'm pretty sure my TC is bad. just want 2nd on that. Other thing is there a gear driven TC out there that will bolt up to my xj? I never liked chain driven. I know gear driven is noisy but I can live with it. Thanks in advance Guys

I forgot to mention I already pulled the front diff cover and checked everything. There's nothing wrong with the front axle. Thanks again

Sounds like your TC is busted. Have you checked the fluid in it? A common swap to a gear driven case is a D300. Just be prepared to do a passenger side drop axle as well in the swap.
