4x4 Linkage bad setup

Yesterday As i was climbing a deep sandy hill with my cherokee in 2wd, I was trying to see where the jeeps 2wd would take me and believe it or not took me all the way to the top! then dug in and i was DEEP i have a 6" lift and the sand was touching the bumper, Anyways back to subject i was going to put in 4WD and notice that it was not engaging at all. Thats because the whole linkage had popped out SOMEHOW and i was not able to fix right on the spot. Later as i took it home I saw how it was put together and im not putting the jeep down but the way its setup is very horrible. Im wondering is there any brand or company that makes a better and smoother setup then the stock linkage??:bangin:

What Brand or Company makes those? or does it have to be custom made? But i mean do you agree with the fact that is a bad setup underneath or is it just me?

advance adapter sells one for 230 dollars way better than factory setup it works great no problems at all just google search advance adapters go to their website and order 1

The NOVAK cable shifter is the way to go. I have one in my XJ and will not go back.

http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/shifters/sk2xc.htm

It took me all of 30 minutes to install by myself. The longest part was getting it adjusted properly.

Don't buy any other shifter bracket. They are all far less than the NOVAK shifter. Not to mention that mine was $195 shipped via Second Day Air for the NOVAK.

The Advance Adapter piece is ONLY for a TJ. I bought it and the Skyjacker part and it wouldn't fit on my XJ.

With that kit,I want to keep the original 4x4 handle will that kit work with the original handle? And how smooth is the shifting any grinding with that kit? Im very new to jeeps:icon_smile:

With the NOVAK cable shifter that I posted above, you keep the factory 4wd handle.

The shifting is VERY smooth. The only grinding there is is if you try shifting into neutral or 4-low while the transmission is in gear. It would do that with any shifter though.

This eliminates all factory style brackets. Even with the Advance Adapter or Skyjacker brackets, you will still have the crappy Z-link style shifter. You will still have problems with it popping out of the brackets.

It is awesome. It is worth the money.

Like I said, install is straight forward and easy. Take the cable off the brackets to install the brackets. Then, put the cable on after the brackets are installed; just remember which end of the cable went to which bracket.

If you don't need the 4wd shifter until you get the NOVAK shifter, go ahead and ditch the factory setup so it won't be in the way.

Yeah I am on vacation so i have plenty of time to work on my jeep=), and yeah i Just put it back together so i will probably wait for the kit, will be here in 2 days. But yeah thanks again that information really helped me out, when I install it I will take some pictures and post:thumbup1: Oh it was 181.49 shipped for me

The shipping difference was because the parts are coming out of Colorado and your in Arizona.
