4x4 light 92 larado
I just bought my first jeep' i know the 4x4 works but no indication on my dash or any lights to tell me it is. I did take apart my dash, noticed on the left side there is 4x4 pic and part time. but they dont light up seeing there is no light bulbs

It isn't easy to get at BUT with a bit of persistence (thick-headed-ness)
You can get it.
It is located on the driver's side of TC.
If you lay on your back at the middle of the door, you can see the water-tight connector between the TC and the floor.
Pop the connector off and let it hang down.
IF you have bulbs and sockets where they need to be in the dash, turn the KEY to ON. Use a small jumper wire inside the connector and check to see if the light on the dash illuminates.
IF it DOES: Switch is either dirty or bad.
IF it DOESN'T: Bulb needs replacement....recheck with jumper wire.
If the switch is dirty or BAD: IIRC a 7/8" wrench will work. Takes a bit of time as there isn't alot of room to turn.
When looking for a replacement...
DO NOT accept a "Transfer Case Switch" it may APPEAR to be right but it isn't.
It is too long and if installed will keep the TC from actually engaging.
What you WANT is a "4WD Indicator Light Switch".
STANDARD MOTOR PARTS # TC10
ACDELCO PARTS # C1761A
You can either go to J/Y and perhaps luck-out and get one that works (It could happen.)
Or if you want NEW:
NAPA sells them, but be prepared for some sticker shock. They are over $50
RockAuto has them for around $30ish
If you go there, it is located in the ELECTRICAL: SWITCH/RELAY catagory NOT in the TRANSFER CASE catagory
But before you go spending money, SOMETIMES they can be cleaned with electrical contact cleaner. Use electrical contact cleaner and NOT brake cleaner as the brake cleaner can often times leave a film on the metal parts that can keep them from making an electrical connection.
Spray the "ball" on the backside (inside) and push it in while spraying.
It moves very little but enough to get some cleaner inside.
Good luck HTH
