4x4 light
i just fixed my tranny from stack shifting it was just a quick adjustment of the kick down cable. well as i was getting to i put it in four high and did a little off roading and when i got down took it back out and my four wheel drive is staying on even after it is shut off all night could there be some sort of vaccum leak some where it's got me boogled other than that it is a great rigg getting ready to put a 4inch rancho lift on it. my daughter loves riding in it. she would rather ride in the cherokee than are family car.

The vacuum switch for the 4x4 light in your 89 "Renix" era XJ is on the firewall over on the passenger side. Your Jeep could be in 2WD and the switch could just be sticking.

I would check to see if it is actually still in 4x4, if so might be a transfer case / linkage problem. If not I would check the switch on the firewall as mentioned above. Mine gets stuck in 4x4 and I have to put it in reverse, move it, back in forward, move it and sometimes it gets out. Or I have to run down the road and it comes off eventually
