Default 4wd inop

last night my 4wd was working fine, i went out this morning and it doesnt work now, the 4wd light comes on but no power from the front axle, is any common issues i should look for? its currently snowing and would like to resolve this so i can get around...thank you, its a 87 cherokee chief with the 4.0 and 5 speed trans

Most likely the vacuum lines. Start there.

the central axle disconnect? is that everyone is "locking" in on the front diff by clamping it or flipping the bracket around? and all the vaccum lines looked in tact and ok

The diaphragm cracks and wont hold the fork and collar over. Test it with a pump-- the switch is probably ok since you said the light comes on. Easy and cheap repair!!
