4WD Clunk
I just purchased a 98 Cherokee sport and she runs great. The only issue I've found other than a valve cover gasket is when placed into 4WD and put under a load (driving up hill) there is a clunk every so often. I haven't been able to get it up on stands yet to check U-joints, is there anything else I should be checking? There is no noise when I run the vehicle on a level surface.

make sure all your tires are the same size, i.e 225/75/r15
i had something similar on my 88xj and noticed one tire was 235/75/r15 and the other 3 were 225/75/r15
just an easy thing to check out before even taking things apart as suggestion.

All tires are the same, I did a little more investigating this evening on my way home from work. It seems to be a linkage problem, the transfer case isn't fully engaging and seems to "slip" until it "locks" in. I'll have to get under the vehicle and see if there's slop. I'd assume its adjustable, I'll have to find our more once I crawl under on Wednesday.
