4.10 or 4.56
I am going to be running a 4.5 lift with 33-12.5 tires. What I want to know is if I should get 4.10 or 4.56. gears. This rig is my DD (91 4.0L 5speed) until I can afford to insure my Camaro. More then likely I will probably swap in a new rear axle at some point, and plan on putting it on 35's when its not my DD anymore (6 months-1year). I do tow alot with my rig 4,000 pound boat. I will be leaving for a 2,500 mile road trip in a month and will be having to do speeds of 80+ MPH on I-5.
So whats the best bang for my buck?
thank you

here is a site where you can do the calculations yourself,www.gimmjeeper.com.gears.html. You can add info and see what is good for you.

I agree with COS
4.56 or bust. Hell I am considering those for mine. And I am on 30's I just don't want to have to regear again when I do go to 33's

do the 4.88 especially with the towing
less wear on the rest of the drivetrain
im about to run 5.38's with 35's
everyone who tells you that your rpm's will be too high doesnt know what they are talking about.

Sure I dont have much of a high gear in 4wd but I wheel rocks lol.
It does good for what it is but If I was going to buy all new stuff and what not id go with 4:88s on your 33s. Im going to go lower when i can afford it and thats what Ill go to. Unless I build 44s then its 5:13s.

With a Jeep 4.0 motor in an XJ you go with the following:
33 inch tires = 4.56 gears
35 inch tires = 4.88 gears
PERIOD END OF STORY!!!!!!!!
I speak from my own experience and what worked and gave the best MPG and performance. No guessing or giving my opinion here. I'm giving you my experience.

those are two that come to mind...also, 4wheelparts does price matching, you just have to bring in a printed out quote for the gears.
