Default 4.0L engine knock/tick

Hello I bought a 2001 xj awhile ago for $1,000 with a crank no start issue. I fixed it and drove it for a couple of weeks and then it started misfiring and fixed that. Well right after I fixed that it started knocking bad. I did an oil change because there was gas in my oil (I think from driving it without it firing on all cylinders and cranking it a ton to try and get it started) anyway after I did the oil change the knock was quieter but it’s still there. I’ve watched hours of videos and read through countless threads and I still can’t figure it out. I was thinking maybe lifters? Please help I miss driving my xj!

Is your coolant reservoir going down?

2000 and 2001 were prone to cracking heads and letting coolant into the engine oil.

How's your oil pressure?

It sounds like it’s top end but it’s hard to distinguish. It wasn’t running on all cylinders because my coil pack went bad. It sounds like it’s coming from the front of the motor more. When I started it before I did the oil change you could barely hear it and then as it warmed up it got really loud. But after the oil change it starts louder but then gets quieter as it warms up. I’ll rev up the engine and it gets a little louder. Hope that helps outback

My coolant reservoir is low but I don’t remember where it was at before the issues started. I’m awake of the cracking heads and have looked to see if I can see it (I’ve been told their sometime noticeable)
My oil pressure is good and constant as it warms up.

+1 on the water pump. I replaced my water pump and it made the worse noise I've ever heard. I thought a tapper was stuck, but it seemed like it was coming too far forward to be one. I double checked to make sure everything was torqued to spec and the noise almost completely disappeared. Here is the thread, it includes a video of the noise. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/lou...engine-251440/
