OK...probably a dumb question....I have a 97 Sport. How do you know if I have the High Output engine? Or is there a difference?

You have the HO engine. They were used from 91' and up. The Renix engine has 177 HP and the HO has 190 HP. I'm pretty sure they just stopped putting the "High Output" badge on the XJs after 97.

96 and after chrysler updated the 4.0 a little. they moved the intake ports up in the head a little bit to improve flow. i also think they changed the cam which lowered the torque peak to 3.000 rpm instead of 4.000 rpm, giving the 4.0 some mid range grunt. i also think the injectors were upsized as well .sorry probably more info than you wanted
