Default 4.0 head issues, need help/opinions

Ok, I just bought a 2000 xj last Friday. Has 94000 miles. I have most of the issues of the cracked 0331 head. Oil pressure is about 12 to 15 after warmup at idle. Slightly rough idle. Coolant loss. I have heat. I did an entire fluid flush. Oil was completely clean. Coolant was clean. I saw a very minuscule amount of white milky sludge on the oil cap but the oil level has not changed. The temp spiked on the drive home from buying the jeep. I parked it immediately and filled the reservoir, no spikes since. Fairly certain it is leaking coolant into the exhaust.

Questions, did the 2000 xj come with any other head than the 0331? If the crack is leaking to the exhaust will it be ok to drive for temporary? Are there any other heads compatible without custom pipes or manifolds? This is my daily driver so I don't want to dump a ton of money into it. I just want to keep it running without having to worry about it.

The 99 and up xjs had the 0331 heads I believe . I know with a little work you can mod and 0683 head onto from earlier 90's jeeps . Driving with head damage is NEVER a good idea . More problems will arise . Confirm your situation read up . And if so get it done . Or do your own rig . Pressure test the head . If its bad . 0683 the b*tch. Hope this helps !

And IMHO never use that head gasket thirty minute fix compound . 99% of cases I've seen just clogs the entire system .

I read a post a while ago about the older heads saying u need a custom y pipe and some other stuff. I wanna keep this as stock as possible. The other big problem with this is I live at home with my parents and already have an s10 blocking up the driveway. I just bought this jeep as a daily and can't leave it to block up the driveway either. I can order a remanned head and have it in a week or so. I just don't wanna have two vehicles sitting in their driveway. I'm also not entirely sure if its the head or the gasket. Could be either.

The 2000 and up XJ's used the 0331 head. The 1996 thru 1999 Xj's used the 0630 head.

If you use a 0630 head on your 2000 block you will need to address the use of the 2000 exhaust manifold on the 0630 head. You will also need to fabricate the ignition coil rail attachements in that the 0630 head doesn't have the threaded attachment holes to mount the rail.

Swapping out the cylinder head won't repair the bearings.

X2. Sounds like you are balancing on the edge of a rebuild here.
