4.0 Axle swap for stock 4 cylinder cherokee
Hey everyone i was wondering if I could swap my 6 cylinder axles out and put in the stock axles that came in the 4 cylinder cherokees because they came with 4.10's.Also would i have to fab anything up or is it a direct bolt in?Also would I have to swap out both axles or just the rear? Thanks

It would be a direct bolt in, you only have to do the rear if you NEVER intend to use 4wd. Otherwise you will run into severe driveline binding and might as well just buy a new transfer case because you will break it. If you have both then go for it. The rear is really just undoing the u-bolts on the axel, undoing the driveshaft and brake lines. The front is a bit more work because of the steering junk

It is possible, just do like model years and NEVER install just one axle.. one mistake will cost more than the upfront investment
Good luck !!

I ran 4cyl axles in my xj for about 4 years before I removed some teeth from the rear pinion gear, and went with a ford 8.8 as a replacement.
Front axle is still going strong.
