Without trimming you would not be able to turn. With a lot of trimming and proper bump stops in could work.

If your determined not to get a lift just get some of the rubber pop in spacers and lift blocks I don't recommend them at all but better then hacking your body to death to fit the 33"s

Instead of blocks, do shackles. I've never heard of 33s fitting on a stock XJ no matter how much trimming. I'm pretty sure you'll need at least 3 inches of lift

I have 33's and 3 inches. I also had to trim a little bit....I still need to trim a bit more. But without hacking your body to hell, they will not fit.

I know theyll fit stock but youll need ALOT of trimming and bumpstop. And ofcourse new wheels with low backspace.

I feel like the benefit of bigger tires would be lost in this situation. What good are 33s if you can't flex at all?

You sir, are opening up a can of worms. It all depends on what you use your rig for. For many, it's about COG (those folks will say flecks is overrated). Those who go for flex, will say to lift as high as possible, which the OP obviously doesn't want to do
