It not bad there was a little loss but also I have a mantran so i can just float through the gear i get about 200 avg per tank and thats wheelin out back quite often. gears are a good investment and in the future i probaly will swap for some 4.10s to get a good mix of offroad and mpg

Since you asked 3:55s would be better.
But 4:10s are really good on 33s and you can find axles from a 4 cyl XJ thatll direct swap into yours.

Neither 3.07s nor 3.55s are good with 33s on an XJ. 3.55s are a bit lower so they are the lesser of two evils. Your optimum gear ratio to run on an XJ with the 4.0 motor 6 Banger) is 4.56. You would probably want to go with 5.13s or even lower (numerically higher) with the 2.5 motor (4 Banger). I ran 5.29 gears with 33s and 35s on my toyota with a 2.2 4 banger and it was fine.

3:07's with 31's ...wheeled for a year plus. Dog on the hills, trails were always done in lo-2nd gear to slow the pig down. Someone mentioned 4cyl XJ's. That was my route. Picked up a carrier and R&P from a donor 2.5. I hunted for used 8.25-4:11's but couldn't find any. Bought 'em new with both master installs for both axles. If you have a 35 rear axle, the 4cyl XJ would be a great find if R&Ps are both good. Buy a complete rough 2.5L for cheap. Strip the gears and whatever else you need and sell the balance of parts to recoup your ca$h...sha-wheat! In theory- a free upgrade! Highly saleable to the wife, hehe
