2K XJ low compression on cyl 3&4
Hello, just bought a 2000 XJ already started on a full interior Nd exterior restore. Just hit a roadblock today. I have the 0331 head and cyl 3&4 has low compression. 80psi. Could this be fixes with a new head or do i need a full rebuild??

Low compression in adjacent cylinders frequently is caused by head gasket failure. You'll need to pull the head to be sure. (Given that's the case you'll probably want to get a replacement head rather than reinstall the 0331.)
If you also have low oil pressure that would be a reason for complete rebuild or engine replacement.

Thanks Rambler, yes i will be replacing that head. My oil pressure is between 40 and 50 at cold start. Between 10 and 20 idle and around 35/40 while driving. I remove the valve cover to inspect and there was no obvious signs of crack but im sure thers something there since both pistons have equally low compression.
